The endless number of songs that he sings are familiar to our residents, and through his music, he awakens their memories. As well as being incredibly talented vocally and in playing the guitar, Fred has a personality that makes you feel as if you have known him forever, and has a wonderful sense of humor. He has always been warm, friendly, and respectful to our residents and staff alike. Fred has been very flexible to work with; everything from playing for crowds of over 200 at our outdoor summer picnics, to playing for smaller groups at birthday parties and socials. "I have been the activity coordinator at Shore Haven Living Center for almost 19 years and Fred Walker is one of the best entertainers we've had. I believe that is because he doesn't just entertain the elders he interacts with them before, after and throughout the entire program.
"Songs You Can't Forget" is a perfect name for his music. It is so evident that they are songs that haven't been forgotten when I see some of our severely demented elders who interact very little singing along with him.
His use of hats and other props are a great addition to his music. In fact one of the elders thinks Fred is Frank Sinatra's brother because of a particular hat he wears!
